The General Ignacio Paua Park is one of the historical places constructed to commemorate the accomplishments of General Jose Ignacio Paua in Legazpi City, Albay.
General Paua is popularly known as the “Chinese General of the Filipino Revolution”. He was born in Laona, Fookien, China on April 29, 1872. He came to the Philippines in 1890 to join in the Filipino Revolution. He was tasked by General Emilio Aguinaldo, the first President of the Philippines, to establish and manage an arsenal and firearms factory in Imus, Cavite.
General Jose Ignacio Paua bravely fought in different conflicts in Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, Pangasinan and Tarlac. He is the only Chinese to sign the Constitution of “Biyak-na-Bato” in 1897.He was designated to raise funds in the Bicol Region during the Filipino-American war. He was held as a prisoner in Fort Santiago and released in June 2, 1900. He lived in Manito, Albay where he was elected as the President of the Municipality. He died on May 24, 1926.
Because of General Paua’s achievements in Legazpi, Albay, a monument was constructed in the small park situated along Rizal Avenue, about 400-meters west of St Gregory Cathedral and 500-meters west of Peñaranda Park.

nice to get a dose of history. although i have never heard of General Paua before this blog i see that he is a very important man and i am glad he got the recognition that he deserves.
