Camiguin Island is an ultimate getaway from the hassle and bustle from the city. It has a lot of tourist attractions to enjoy and one of them is the Sto Nino Cold Spring. It is situated 4 kilometers north uphill of Catarman proper where you can find Catarman Coral Dive Resort.
Sto Nino Cold Spring has a pool measuring 25 meters by 40 meters and a dip of 4 ft to 8 ft. The water then flows into a smaller pool built for children. The crystal clear water is about 20 °C which is sprouting from the sandy bottom. The coldness of the water is comparable to the swimming pools in Iligan such as Timoga Spring Pool, Mimars Springway Resort and Dela Mar.
Before entering the gate of Sto Nino Cold Spring, some local folks would approach and offer you a short order menu. They offer native chiken, fish and pork which can either be cooked as fried, grill, adobo or tinola. Native chicken cost P280.00/kilo, the fish cost P300.00/kilo and the pork cost P280.00/kilo. The rice would cost P10.00/cup. These foods can be eaten inside the Sto Nino Cold Spring.
If you want to bring your own food to cook, you don’t have to worry as Sto Nino Cold Spring offers cook-out facilities as well as picnic huts and restrooms for their guests. Entrance fee is at P20.00/person and the picnic hut rental is P50.00.
A lot of people visit Sto Nino Cold Spring especially during summer and weekends. During these times, the place tends to get full and crowded. Only a few people visit the place during weekdays.
Outside Sto Nino Cold Spring are different souvenir stalls which sell handmade bracelets, printed t shirt, native hats, swimwear and a whole lot more. There are also small stalls which sells fresh coconut juice and other dainties. Also you can borrow a life saver made out of used tire which you can use while swimming inside Sto Nino Cold Spring.
I’m not really sure why it’s called Sto Nino Cold Spring and if it has any relevance to Sto. Niño de Cebu. The people working in the place couldn’t answer as well. I guess we will leave it as it is.
