Sto. Niño de Paz Chapel in Makati

Sto. Niño de Paz Chapel is a beautiful chapel located in the heart of the Greenbelt development. It was the vision of Fanny Del Rosario Diploma to create a chapel for the “busy office employees and working people, right in the heart of Makati’s Business District”. The structure was designed by Willie Fernandez and then enhanced by Jess Dizon, who rendered the circular pattern of the building. Renowned glass sculptor, Ramon Orlina, fabricated the ceiling, tabernacle, altar, sacristy, cross at the entrance and the God the Father image on the dome.

Sto. Niño de Paz is one of the smallest edifices found in Makati City. Because it is hidden inside the Ayala owned Greenbelt Chain of Malls, this chapel is also known as the Greenbelt Chapel. Now recognized as one of Makati’s tourist attractions, Sto. Niño de Paz boasts its simplistic yet amazing design to the foreign and domestic tourists who visits it.

Last July 28, 1983, the first Mass at Greenbelt Chapel was celebrated by His Eminence Jaime Cardinal Sin. Don Jaime Zobel de Ayala, Atty. and Mrs. Diploma, and numerous benefactors and guests graced the festivities in the pursuit of bringing the catholic faithful closer to God.

Sto. Niño de Paz is situated in the middle of a fish pond where hundreds of koi and several ducks are visible. The surrounding of clean, lush greens and animal statues makes praying peaceful and calm even if it’s inside one of the biggest malls in the Philippines.

Inside the Sto. Niño de Paz Chapel in Greenbelt, one can instantly notice the beautiful dome and ceiling design. The altar is surrounded by curved pews with the main office, chaplain, confessional and administration office found at the four corners. The Stations of the Cross can be found on the ceiling where a lot of people ‘follow’ during Holy Week.
